Sea buckthorn is a shrub species native to Europe that is relatively uncommon in Ontario. It’s promotion as a relatively new commercial crop in Ontario is concerning to some due to its reported invasiveness in other parts of Canada.
During a 2016 invasive plant survey of Forks of the Credit Provincial Park, and EDRR Network volunteer identified this invasive shrub within park boundaries. Thanks to EDRR Network partners at Credit Valley Conservation Authority, we’ll be hosting an eradication event on Monday April 3rd to help us determine where the plant is limited to.
Join us at 1030am at Forks of The Credit Provincial Park in the main parking lot as we explore the park in search of other sea buckthorn populations. Participants will be invited to view active control efforts of CVC staff from a safe distance.
