Emerald Ash Borer

Agrilus planipennis

The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is an invasive wood-boring insect that originated from eastern Asia. It was first detected in North America in 2002 (Detroit, Michigan and Windsor, Ontario), and believed to be introduced through the movement of wooden packaging materials and shipping crates. It has since spread to several U.S. states and through much of southern, central and eastern Ontario. EAB has devastated the ash tree population in Ontario, killing 99% of ash trees it encounters.
